  • Leakage checking
  • Recovery of refrigerants
  • Installation
  • Decommissioning
  • Repairs, maintenance and servicing

F-Gas Assessment

The qualification is designed for technicians who install, service and repair heat pump systems (air to air, air to water, ground to water, etc), and require the following skills:

  • Pipework and jointing skills
  • Safe handling of refrigerant techniques
  • Recovery of refrigerants
  • Intrusive and Non-Intrusive Leak and performance checking of systems

Practical Topics Covered

  • Jointing and testing of pipework (both brazed and mechanical)
  • Pressure testing (strength and tightness)
  • Evacuation and dehydration of systems
  • Charging of refrigerant into systems
  • Refrigerant recovery
  • Systems commissioning
  • Direct and indirect leak testing of systems

Theoretical Topics

  • Health and Safety
  • The Ozone layer and why we need it
  • How refrigerants affect the Ozone Layer and induce Global Warming
  • Environmental legislation
  • Pressure Enthalpy
  • Vapour Compression Cycle
  • Ensuring efficient operation of equipment
  • States of Refrigerants

Prerequisites

Candidates wishing to undertake Category I qualifications must hold a recognised qualification, current ACS OR OFTEC qualification OR have a minimum of 2 years audit-able evidence of prior work OR NVQ in Plumbing OR hold an NVQ level 2 in Heating and Ventilation.

Other information

Certification Body: LCL Awards (5 year expiry) Certificate issued upon successful completion of theory and practical assessment Course fee includes a comprehensive F-Gas Reference Manual Practical training will be given to allow technicians to carry out safe recovery of refrigerants, strength and tightness pressure testing using suitable inert gas, evacuation and dehydration of systems, accurate system charging and commissioning as well as direct and indirect leak checking. Pipework jointing methods, including brazing, will be included in the training sessions allowing candidates to undertake hot works and prove their competency.
