2017 Charity support revealed as Cancer Research UK and Grace Kelly Ladybird Trust

• Cancer Research and The Grace Kelly Ladybird Trust have been unveiled as our 2017 charities
• A companywide vote saw huge support for both of these national and local charities
• An inaugural bake sale officially kicked off the fundraising schedule

The two charities we will be supporting in 2017 have now been revealed as Cancer Research UK and The Grace Kelly Ladybird Trust, a local charity raising money for research into childhood cancers.

More than 1600 of our associates were given the chance to nominate a charity and over 30 names were put forward for consideration in a final vote, which saw overwhelming support for the two successful names.

Both charities were represented at the first of our fundraising coffee mornings. Bake sales, dress down days and a variety of unusual activities are also in the pipeline for the coming year.  

Dr Jennifer Kelly, Grace’s mum and founder of the Grace Kelly Ladybird Trust said:

“I am delighted that Grace Kelly Ladybird Trust was selected as one of the charities. The Trust was set up in memory of my daughter, Grace. She passed away in 2014 at the age of 4 from a rare form of cancer. The main aim is to raise awareness of the signs and symptoms of childhood cancer and how it may present, as early diagnosis saves lives. We are also working hard to fund research into solid childhood tumours, which are the most under researched, to help give children the chance that they greatly deserve.

“Our latest scheme of awareness cards showing the signs and symptoms has now seen over 55,000 families reached and equipped with the knowledge that could save their child's life. With 1 in 500 children diagnosed with cancer before the age of 14, it is something that parents need to know.

“It really means a huge amount to have the support of Worcester Bosch to help spread the work Grace Kelly Ladybird Trust, saving further lives.”

Victoria Roberts, local fundraising manager for Cancer Research UK, added:

“Every two minutes, someone in the UK is diagnosed with cancer. With the help of employees at Worcester, we’re working to fund research which will help more men, women and children survive.

“It’s fantastic that Worcester has pledged to raise money for us in the coming year and we wish them the best of luck with their fundraising. The funds will go towards the charity’s research to beat over 200 types of cancer, helping to bring forward the day when all cancers are cured.

“Although the number of people being diagnosed with cancer is going up the good news is that, thanks to research, survival rates have doubled in the past 40 years.  More people across Worcester are now beating the disease than ever before. Cancer Research UK’s work is at the heart of that progress.

“As Cancer Research UK receives no Government funding for its ground-breaking research, funds raised through supporters like Worcester is crucial to the work of doctors, nurses and scientists who work day and night to fight cancer on all fronts.”
