Double marathon heats up for Worcester Bosch pair raising money for Prostate Cancer UK

- Two employees plan to walk a double marathon to raise money for this year’s chosen charity
- The added challenge – the marathons will take place across the Sahara Desert
- Heat, sand, mountains and camels will all make this challenge even harder
Walking two marathons back to back would be enough for most people, but for Marcel and Melanie Torrent, who both work here at Worcester Bosch, a further challenge was needed all in the name of fundraising – now they are planning to walk a double marathon in the Sahara Desert.
Marcel, is our manufacturing operations manager at our Clay Cross site, and, Melanie, is a quality systems engineer at our Worcester HQ. Both will be heading for the Sahara on 11th October, to raise money for our chosen charity, Prostate Cancer UK.
The gruelling 84km run will take place over two days, with each marathon taking around 8-9 hours to complete. This is all with the added test of sand dunes, mountain tracks and open desert, plus the intense heat, forming the difficult environment and terrain.
The pair are no strangers to endurance challenges, and have been training hard by undertaking a 150km walk per month for the last year.
Marcel commented:
“This is going to be great fun and will be a nice finish to the many walks we have completed throughout the year. The biggest hurdle will definitely be the heat and the sand, but there is the added challenge of keeping out the way of the camels using the route too, as they tend to spit!
“We have self-funded the trip, so any money raised for this worthy cause will be very well received.”
Prostate Cancer UK has been chosen as its charity of choice by our employees. Fundraising for the charity was opened with an inaugural bake sale and there are many events planned throughout the year.
The Saharan Challenge is being run by Action Challenge.
